Professor Dr.-Ing José Barata is a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the NOVA University of Lisbon and the Industry Liaison Officer and Robotics and Industrial Coordinator of Complex Systems (RICS) Research Group in the UNINOVA Institute. He has a PhD degree in Robotics and Integrated Manufacturing since 2004 from the New University of Lisbon. Dr. Barata has participated in more than 20 International Research projects involving different programmes (NMP, IST, ITEA, ESPRIT, H2020, FP7). He is also scientific coordinator of Smart Farm Collaborative Laboratory(SFCOLAB). In the last years, Dr. Barata has participated actively researching systems with self capabilities, such as self-learning, self-awareness, self-organisation applied to manufacturing and service robots domains (e.g. within the Self-Learning, PROSECO, and PRIME projects). He has published over 180 original papers in international journals and international conferences. He is a member of the IEEE technical committees on Industrial Agents (IES), Self-Organisation and Cybernetics for Informatics (SMC), and Education in Engineering and Industrial Technologies (IES). He is also a member of the IFAC technical committee 4.4 (Cost Oriented Automation).

She is a Senior Researcher at UNINOVA institute, Nova University of Lisbon. She received her BSc degree in Mathematics from Islamic Azad University (I.A.U.) in 2005, MSc degree in Information Technology Management (Information Resource Management) from Farabi Institute of Higher Education in 2011, and Ph.D. in Information Technology Management (Business Intelligence) from I.A.U, Science and Research Branch in 2017. She has also worked as a Post-Doc researcher during 2018-2019 at Nova School of Science and Technology, Nova University of Lisbon. Her research interests include Computational Creativity, Business Intelligence, Human behaviour, and Emerging technologies, ICT, and Innovation Management. She has published several books and academic papers in a number of peer-reviewed journals and presented various academic papers at conferences. She has experience as organizational and Technical chair and member in several conferences and events. She has participated in several European Commission projects (e.g. H2020: DEMAND, BIECO, SOLSTICE,…), Portuguese National projects(e.g. P2020: CESME), National Iranian ICT projects, and Collaborative laboratory for the digitalization of agriculture (SFCOLAB). In addition, She has worked as a university invited professor, and also she is the director of the WoSTEM (Women In Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program in UNINOVA.

Francisco MARQUES, is pursuing is PhD in navigation in harsh environments and cooperative robotics at the NOVA University of Lisbon under the supervision of Prof. José Barata. He received his master degree in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineer, from this University in 2012. He has been working as a researcher in UNINOVA since. He was responsible for the navigation, control, sensor data processing for several mobile robots for aerial, marine an all-terrain applications, developed in the projects INTROBOT and Robosampler, Echord Riverwatch, ATLAS.

André LOURENÇO, during the course of his MsC (completed in 2014) and early research work towards his PhD, under supervision of José Barata, has been involved with diverse mobile robotics-related projects at the Uninova institute. He received his MSc equivalency from Science and Technology Faculty (@ NOVA University of Lisbon) submitting his dissertation on volumetric approaches to hazard mapping for ground vehicles’ off-road navigation. Aside continuing his work on further national and European research projects, he is advancing his PhD study on artificial intelligence of mobile vehicles, namely on the cognitive end to visual attention.

Ricardo MENDONÇA is pursuing is PhD on visual attention and computer graphics at Science and Technology Faculty (@ NOVA University of Lisbon), under the supervision of Prof. José Barata. He received a MSc (2012) in swarm theory applied to visual attention. Aside his PhD’s work, he is also been researching at CTS-UNINOVA on national and European research projects. His current main research interests include autonomous systems, field robotics, active vision, and selective rendering for computer graphics. He has published 11 scientific papers in international conferences and journals.

He is pursuing his Ph.D. on Symbiotic Robotics Systems at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the supervision of Prof. José Barata, while collaborating in several projects at UNINOVA and FCT-UNL. He received a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) in 1991 and an electrical engineering degree in 1995 by Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) from Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. He obtained an M.Sc. in 2002, also from IST, with a thesis on hardware loop simulation for automobile electronic control units. He had participated in several software projects in DBG-Gabinete de Aplicações Informatics. From 2005 to 2009 he was a consultant for SRE-Soluções Racionais de Energia coordinating and giving support to several projects related to renewable energies, solar, and wind, but with emphasis on control systems for innovative low power PEM fuel cells. From 2003 to 2010 he was the national representative of the Portuguese junior Teams in RoboCup federation along as a member of several technical committees, and his teams won several prizes. He is now a member of the Portuguese Society of Robotics (SPR). His current main research interests include autonomous robots, field robotics, adaptive behaviour, swarm organization, and bio-inspired cooperative heterogeneous robotics.

Luís do Ó, is a researcher at the UNINOVA institute. He received his MSc (2018) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the Nova University of Lisbon. As a researcher, he is working on a project at INCM on implementing an autonomous logistics system to complement the production of citizen cards. Aimed at replacing the repetitive work with autonomous robots, and at the same time improving performance. Pedro Prates, is a researcher at the UNINOVA institute. He received his MSc (2018) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the Nova University of Lisbon submitting a dissertation about a cooperative approach for the autonomous landing of UAVs in mobile platforms. As a researcher, he has been involved in the P2020 Instagri project focused in the aerial data acquisition and mapping of plantations using UAVs, for improved decision making in agriculture. Currently, he is working in the INCM’s ATLAS project focused on developing an Intralogistics support system for Flexible Manufacturing within INCM (Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda), using a combination of mobile platforms and robotic arms. His research interests include Mobile Robots, Computer Vision, Robotic Navigation, Human-Robot Interaction, Robot Cooperation, and Artificial Intelligence.

David Taranta, is currently a MSc student at the NOVA University of Lisbon focusing on Robotics, Systems and Control, and Digital Systems. He is currently finishing his Master Thesis and is a researcher at the UNINOVA institute. He received his Bachelor (2018) in Electrical and Computer Engineering Sciences, from the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. As a researcher he has been involved in the ATLAS (Autonomous Transport for Logistics Systems) project. Currently, he is working on the ATLAS project and his work is focused primarily on autonomous navigation of mobile robots. His research interests include Autonomous Robot Navigation and Human-Aware Navigation.

Nastaran Farhadi Ghalati is a PhD student at the CTS – Centre of Technology and Systems from the UNINOVA institute, Nova University of Lisboan since 2018. She holds her B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Islamic Azad University (IAU), Bushehr, Iran, in December 2005 and M.Sc. (Control Engineering) was obtained from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Mashhad, Iran (September. 2011) where she explored the optimization of System of System. The result of her M.sc thesis is published in the 5th Asia-Pacific Conference on Systems Engineering. After graduation, she had several teaching experiences from 2013 to 2017 in IAU. She is interested to study and research on the field related to machines learning, data mining, cyber security, cyber physical systems, and multi agent systems especially agent-based control systems

Forest Engineer by the Higher Institute of Agronomy has the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Environmental Education and the PhD in Education from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Since 2000, she coordinates the CEABN / ISA environmental education program. Coordinated the "Forests Environmental Education Manual" edited by the National Forest Authority, co-author the FAO / UN Handbook on "Cape Verde Forests: A Good to Protect", and other editions for the general public such as agendas CTT for the international years for biodiversity and forests. In 2007/8 she was an FAO / UN consultant in Cape Verde in the area of forest fire prevention. She has participated in several European research projects in the area of risk and forest fires as well as in forest education. In recent years the main themes of research are the social dimension of forest and forest fires.
